Our Focus Region

Where We Work

The Chicacao region of southern Guatemala, where rural communities face significant barriers to healthcare, education, and basic infrastructure.

Guatemala

A country of breathtaking beauty facing profound challenges.

Guatemala is known for its rich Mayan heritage, stunning volcanoes, lush landscapes, world-renowned chocolate, and exceptional coffee. The Guatemalan people are descendants of the ancient Maya civilization and speak either Spanish, one of several Mayan dialects, or both.

However, Guatemala also faces significant health challenges. The country has some of the highest rates of poverty, chronic malnutrition, growth stunting, and maternal-infant mortality in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Chicacao Region

Our current area of focus in southern Guatemala.

Limited Healthcare Access

Access to local medical clinics ranges from an hour's walk to several hours of driving, depending on the level of care needed.

Educational Barriers

Community members attend an average of 3-4 years of school, with women typically only attending 1-2 years of elementary education.

Water & Sanitation

Communities often lack basic infrastructure including sewage systems, garbage disposal, and access to clean, potable water.

Economic Challenges

Men typically work in labor-intensive agriculture jobs, earning an average of 2000 quetzales (~$260 USD) per month.

Our Approach

Working alongside local partners to create sustainable change.

We believe that lasting health improvements come from within communities, not from outside organizations. That's why we partner with local Guatemalan leaders, healthcare providers, and educators to design and implement programs that are culturally grounded and sustainable.

Our programs are built on mutual respect, collaboration, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing each community we serve.
